Sidney was a delight to be with and I always enjoyed hearing stories about his younger years and I will always remember him for his generosity and his dry wit. He will be missed dearly!

I am so sorry to hear about Sidney's passing, he had such a big personality, and was so funny and sharp. He was so kind to ask (unprompted) about my husband when I worked with him, and he differentiated between myself as "the Chelsea who is married and from Winnipeg" and Chelsea Steele as "the Chelsea who is Italian", haha. I always pictured attending his memorial along with a huge turnout of guests, it is so cruel that he passed away during this pandemic and there was simply not an option to have a large memorial service. He actually asked me one day if I would attend his funeral, and I said that I would. One last thing is that Sidney would sometimes ask me to go downstairs and buy a coffee and muffin combo from Second Cup and put in on his tab. The first time that he asked me to do this, I paid for it myself and when I told him this and that I was not aware of the open tab at the cafe, he was not impressed. After that day, he would ask me to go downstairs, purchase the combo on his tab and then insist on splitting both items with me, even after I protested multiple times. I told him many times that he was a very generous person (concerning other matters as well, not just this!) and I really hope he believed that about himself. I can’t believe I’ll never speak to Sid again. On one day I particularly remember, we were talking about Alcatraz, the former prison off the coast of San Francisco. I have no idea how the subject came up, but we both realised we wanted to know more about it, so I researched it on my phone. We discussed how many people had been imprisoned there, how many had tried to escape and how, and who the inmates were (for example, the famous Birdman). This led on to a discussion about Al Capone and the way he maintained his power in Chicago. We even specifically looked into the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and when I read out the names of the victims, Sid’s ears pricked when he realised some of them were Jewish. I remember it fondly because it was something we had in common and something we were doing together on equal terms. This is what I remembered when I read the news. I told Sid on several occasions that my life was enhanced by meeting him and having the opportunity to work with him. I’m not sure he believed me. It’s truly a pity no more than 10 can attend the funeral but I’m happy you will be there to represent us, Lee. Pete

I had the pleasure of having my first couple of shifts with him when I starting working at CHKC. He was always so friendly and apologetic even when he was just tired. He will be missed by everyone !!

I worked with him a few times. I enjoyed whenever he would call to chat. He said he always called to let intervenors know he was doing fine. He will be missed.

This is so sad. He would always say that he was grateful for us to come and talk to him for that short time. He was a pleasure to talk to.

Dearest Alice, Thank you for sharing the beautiful Eulogy you wrote for Uncle Sidney. It was wonderful to learn more about the family that I did not know before. Uncle Sidney was dearly loved by our family and his loss will of course be felt very deeply by you, Kevin and the girls. Good morning from beautiful Vancouver Island ? A year today, Sunday morning was the day we, Kevin and I, went to Baycrest to visit Sidney, a usual routine. Exactly at 10 am, once proof of my Covid-19 test was accepted by the front desk staff, once my temperature ? was taken and approved, once my mask was switched with a surgical mask, I had barely made it through the gates, ?when the head nurse from Sidney’s floor called, to announce the sad news, his passing. Kevin, who was waiting in the car was allowed to enter the building, even without a Covid-19 test. An unsual exception. We were devastated, I collapsed. I could barely move. Tomorrow, Monday December 20, marks Sidney’s 1st anniversary of his passing. It is the Jewish ✡ custom to light a 7 day memorial candle? and to gather with family and friends to celebrate his life. At 10 am tomorrow we will do just that. Tralore, Kevin, Rachel, Léah and I will Light a seven day memorial candle for Sidney to talk about his life in Morocco, in Canada, the good memories, fun, sad, milestones with his family and friends , and much more ....
