Stanley Rose

Thank you for ice cream after dance recitals, toast and milk shake, basketball, theatre and swag. You loved tilting at windmills, and won much more often than expected. No one will forget your determination and strength to follow your internal compass. Thank you for Shawna and Murray, without whom we would be forever impoverished.

To Howie, Carolyn the entire Rose Family, The five plus years that we knew Stanley were definitely NOT enough. We shared a common bond both being polio survivors and Stanley exemplified the type 'A' personality that most of us share. Every time we would get together it would be sheer joy, Whether it be for socializing, dinner, a show and especially enjoying annual cruising with our Post Polio Support Group from Boca Raton. I introduced Stanley to the support group a few years ago. He immediately became in active member not only in the Boca Raton Group, Polio Quebec meetings and the ONTARIO MARCH OF DIMES Polio Support Group. He attended many zoom meetings, often helping others with his legal expertise and advise from his own experience dealing with disability. An extremely generous man that few people have the opportunity of knowing. Within hours of been notified of Stanley's passing, I have been inundated from many members our support groups expressing sincere sadness and condolences. Harriet and I well deeply miss his warmth, compassion, humor and his aura of being a total Mench. To say Stanley was a one of a kind it's truly an understatement. I’m so sorry to see our dear Stan go. Last June we were privileged to have him join us at our son’s wedding. Stan and I knew each other since we were kids at Camp Ogama, and he counselled us throughout our lives. Our families shared many adventures together. He will be sorely missed

To Howard, Carolyn and the Rose family. I first met Stan at Canp Ogama in 1862. A warm and wonderful human being who never let his disability deter him. Was always smiling and joking around. Later in life I was fortunate to meet with him regarding legalities. He was a true mensch and I am so sorry for your loss. I still remember him at our last Ogama reunion which he enjoyed so much.

Oh, my goodness, how could this be? I don't know what condition he had but it's hard to believe this happened as I just saw his smile at the [cruise] dining room a few nights ago and now he's gone... At least he made it this year.

Stan (“Morton”) has been a fixture in our lives from our very beginning. First meeting Stan when he visited his grandmother on Silverton Avenue in the early 60s. Working closely with Stan in his brilliant legal capacity and most importantly, sharing countless family memories with each other. Stan was the most determined of people and had the strongest neshama. We loved Stan and our lives have forever been enhanced by him. I am shocked! The Boca Area Post Polio Group came back on March 3rd and by the 6th Stanley passed away.

My condolences to his daughter, friends and family. Stan n I shared a common passion for baseball - our favorite teams Braves, Dodgers, Blue Jays often recalling our heroes. Not long ago a very close friends mom passed away - Stan, Ann Goldberg and I were honored to be able to attend her funeral - not the Shiva. I know that both Stan n Ann were happy with our support. - I have a medical appointment on Friday - so I will not be able to attend the service. Concerning baseball we attended the World Series where Toronto won. I have a signed baseball memento that I was planning on giving to Stan (Joe Carter, Dave Windfield, Dave Stieb, among many) on my next visit to Toronto. I will miss seeing Stan on our zoom meeting and I will add Stan n his family in my nightly prayers. With much sadness, Martin

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Stanley Rose. For those of you who knew Stanley, please accept my sincere condolences. He was so happy to have gone on the cruise this year, after missing last year's.

It is with great sadness that today, here at March of Dimes Canada we learn of the passing of Stanley Rose, of Toronto, ON, active polio member of the national virtual polio support group. Stanley was always willing to lend a helping hand to any fellow polio survivor and shared as guest speaker last year with the valuable information of end of life preparations. He was very active in the March of Dimes Toronto chapter of polio groups for many years. Stanley, just recently returned from the Boca Area Post Polio Group's cruise.

I was very sorry to hear about Stan’s passing. Stan was our car pool leader with Grossman and Hirchfeld and wise and me back in 1963 in our first year at U of T. He was our house leader at Sammy our frat from 1963-67. I have very strong memories of Stan - his intelligence and his integrity.our condolences to his family. Eric and Bonnie.

Condolences to Stan’s family. We were shocked to hear of his passing. I’ve known Stan since we were kids, as we shared a cousin, the late Marsha McWhinnie. When we moved into the Manulife Residence several years ago, we became reacquainted with Stan. We always looked forward to meeting him in our lobby, chatting and getting caught up. He was a real mensch with a great sense of humour. He will be missed and remembered.

The Boca Area Post Polio Group is deeply saddened at the sudden loss of our dear friend Stan. A true gentleman that was funny, generous, caring, gave sound advice & one never knew what he was thinking behind those kind eyes. We came to know Stan in 2017 who joined us on several cruises and even surprised us once by dropping in from Toronto at one of our in-person meetings in Florida. God made it possible for Stan to join us on Cruise 2024 as he was so disappointed when he missed the ship by 2 minutes by a way-ward taxi driver in 2023. God came through again allowing Stan to enjoy this cruise, being with other polio survivors, enjoying the casino and seeing him home safely to pass. His favorite expression was, ' You never know'. He will be missed and never forgotten. Stan IS resting in peace & we were blessed to experience his kindness. We send our heart-felt condolences to the Rose Family.

My sincere sympathy to the Rose family. I only knew Stanley through the Post Polio Network but he had a great sense of humour and was very knowledgeable.

Our condolences to Stan's family. He was a strong, sharp, funny, vivid presence. An example, really, in all these things. I have rich personal memories of friendship beyond family, often built around our shared passion for baseball, and his readiness to needle me about 'my' team, which was not his. I'll add that professionally Stan was impeccable. We reaped the benefit of his legal skills several times, and they really were benefits. I’ll also mention that I never once heard him complain about the impact polio had on him, never let it stop him from reaching for and finding a rich life. He'll be missed. Guy and Laura Kay

Stan really seemed to enjoy himself on the cruise. He looked so happy in his poker outfit on Friday night.

It is with great sadness that I write to offer my deepest condolences in the passing of Stanley Rose. I didn’t know him very well but in the time I did get to know him, I learned a lot from Stan. I will miss him and I know the Boca Area Post Polio Group will miss him cruising with them. I was able to view the service for Stan virtually.

Dear Rose Family, I have known Stan all of my life since we had mutual cousins. I always greatly admired his resilience, optimistic outlook and good nature. As well as seeing Stan regularly through our family connections, I also had the good fortune of attending Camp Ogama where Stan was the kingpin and virtual "commissioner" of sports. I was fortunate to call Stan a friend. We shared many happy hours together on the post polio cruises, including the one last week. I am so saddened by his passing, and in a state of disbelief. He was quiet, unassuming, generous with his praise, and quick witted; he always had a quip at the ready. His parting words to me as we said goodbye last Sunday evening were, "it was destiny that we became friends". I will savour these last words. I am going to greatly miss his gentle spirit. Dear Carolyn and Howard, I first met The Rose family when we shared a duplex on Meadowbrook Ave back in the late 50,s! He babysat for my daughter Debbie who was an infant at the time. He was a fabulous human being! How he managed to look after Debbie, considering his mobility changes, I will never know! At that time, we asked Stan to come up to Camp Ogama and be a staff member. Joe hired him and he was an inspiration to everybody who was with us in those days!!!! He was with us on staff for many years and did a fabulous job! I last saw him in April at Joe's funeral. I am so sorry for your sudden loss. Prayers of strength are being sent to you and your family as you pass through this difficult time. I've known Stan since he joined in with our Boca Area Post Polio Group, and traveled with my husband, on several cruises that Stan also took. We all missed him last year, and were so pleased that he was able to join us this year. We spoke about the possibility of Eddy and Harriet joining us again next year, and he was pleased that that might happen. We enjoyed seeing him in his casino jacket and tie on our last "formal" dinner night, before he headed off to the casino. In a chance encounter on our last day at sea, he cautioned me to "stay healthy" in the meantime. We said our goodbyes, and parted ways, fully expecting to see each other at the next zoom meeting--and hopefully on the next cruise.
