With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce the tragic passing of Steven Smolyar, taken from us far too young, after a long battle with cancer. Steven fought bravely, with dignity and conviction to the very end. Enduring months of pain and treatments, to live to see his own son turn one year old. He was a husband, father, son, uncle, and friend to many. He loved to travel, fish and bbq. But what he loved most was family; and felt no greater pride than when he was blessed to have him own.

Steven will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will live on in the cherished memories of those who knew him best; his wife Angela, who in Steven found a partner that could finally keep up with all of life’s adventures;  his children, Emily and Jamie, who in Steven found warmth, love, and hugs; his parents, Mark, Marina, and Ilia, who could count on smiling the moment they saw his face; h is brother Danny, who is eternally grateful for having had a chance to share the world with him, and his sister-in-law Michelle, who saw Steven for what he was – a kind soul and a thoughtful friend.

He was especially loved by his two nieces, Chloe and Nikki, who he taught camping and how to eat a cucumber “Stuopa-style”. And who will have the honour of teaching their cousins about the sweet, wonderful man their father was. Steven will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (https://thepmcf.ca/).
