In loving memory of Sybil Bendeth
January 22, 1930- May 30, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of darling mother Sybil (Sybs) at the wonderful age of 95, surrounded by her adoring family. Loving wife of the late Dr. Basil Bendeth; daughter of the late Ben and Fay Berman, sister to the late Bette Taylor and Ruth Beacon. Beloved mother to David and wife Jeannette Thalmann-Bendeth and adoring daughter and carer, Marian Bendeth, Grandmother to Jackie and Myles Bendeth, a proud doggyMom to her beautiful Westie, Brody, Sybil was truly adored. She was cherished by all who knew her. Born in the East End of London, Sybil survived the Blitz of WW2 and resided in Aberystwyth, Wales for four years with her family and returned to London postwar. After graduating from College with a Secretarial Degree from the London College, she worked in the head office for Marks & Spencer alongside Lord Marks, spending her after-hours supporting the new State of Israel from 1947 to 1951. After meeting her husband, Dr. Basil Sydney Bendeth, who was a military Doctor based in Kaduna, North Africa, for four years, they wed in 1952 in London and immigrated to Canada with their children in 1963. Her passions for plays, musicals and dramas led her to be the Director and actress with the Don Valley Players alongside working with her husband as a medical secretary, her monologues and memory for lyrics through an array of music from classical to show tunes, rock to fusion, Rm/B to Jazz, she knew every word, every lick right up until her passing. Sybil’s attitude towards life was “Tell me something nice”. She was a liberal thinker and adored chatting with everybody with a story to tell. She was incredibly stoic throughout her cancer/chemo treatments and surgeries with nary a complaint. Her family would like to thank her Doctor, Dr. Tanya Wyman; Oncologist, Sunnybrook Hospital, Dr. Ince; Ontario Palliative caseworker, Sharfana; Nurse, Dana, and PWS’s: Rookmin, Mathy and Emelyn for all their kindness and assistance over the past three years. Her diamond light shone down on all she met, always in our hearts and memories.
