SELTZER, SYDNEY “ISIAH”, With heavy hearts the family of Sydney announces his passing on Saturday, April 27, 2019, in his 91st year. Sydney, beloved husband of Ethel (Dworkin), is survived by his wife, son Allan, daughter Marilyn (Ross) and son Earl (Susan), and his sister, Ethel.
Born in Montreal on November 13, 1928, Syd was one of five children of the late Samuel and Bella (Vineberg) and is predeceased by siblings Adolph, Moe and Grace and an infant son, Michael.
Blessed to find love a second time, Syd married Ethel in 1976 and became stepfather to Lori (Rob) and Leeann (Andy) and the late Howard and Warren (Christina). He will be missed by his 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends
Syd and Ettie moved to Toronto in 1977 and lived at The B`Nai Brith House on Bathurst for over 20 years. Syd spent much of his retirement volunteering at Baycrest, where he was an integral part of the team transporting patients to their appointments, helping the patients with their meals and socializing with them. Syd loved music and he was a frequent attendee at concerts and operas, where we are sure he was conducting the orchestra from his seat. He was an active member of the Jewish community, and a member of Shaarei Torah synagogue.
Service will be held at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave. West, Thornhill, Ontario, on Monday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. Internment at Pardes Shalom Cemetery, 10953 Dufferin Street, Maple will follow. The family will receive friends afterward at 43 Bryant Street, Toronto. Shiva at Syd & Ettie’s home at 4300 Bathurst Street, on Tuesday, April 30, Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 from 2 pm – 4 pm, and again from 7 pm to 9 pm.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Baycrest 6W for their kindness, caring and incredible patience. We are eternally grateful.
