Sylvia Fine

SYLVIA FINE

1919 – 2017

The darkest hour is just before dawn. Thursday morning at Baycrest, Sylvia died in her sleep.

Sylvia grew up in West Toronto, the only child of Sophia and Alex Rose, a Milliner and a Tailor.

She attended Humberside Collegiate. She loved to tell the story of her war years, rolling bandages with the Rainbow Girls. After the war she married Hersh Fine, moved to Downsview, and raised a family. She was active in the Eastern Star, moving through the offices and becoming President of her chapter. She was also active in the Sisterhood of the Clanton Park Synagogue. On their retirement, Sylvia and Hersh spent many happy years dividing their time between family in Toronto and snowbird friends in Del Ray Beach. After Hersh’s death in 2003 Sylvia continued to live independently until well into her 98th year.

Lovingly remembered by sons Richard and Mark, daughter Joy, daughters-in-law Ramona, Amy and Geri, and granddaughters Rachel and Isabel. Special thanks to Shiela Domocmat and the staff at St. Hildas and Baycrest.
