Sylvia Rose Madesker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Toronto, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories. Born in Belleville, Ontario on February 27, 1928, to Jacob and Anne Goldberg, and was the younger sister of Mary and Kay.
Sylvia was the cherished wife of the late Michael Madesker, and their love story spanned an incredible 65 years, filled with adventures and shared experiences. Together, they navigated the highs and lows of life with grace, and their love served as an inspiration to all who knew them.
As a mother, Sylvia was a pillar of strength to her children Arlene, Debbie and Randy, Gregory and Shannon. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Jordan and Christine, Ashley and Mark, Dustin and Alanna, Melissa, and Ruby Jean, and her great-grandchildren, Lauren, Darcy, Logan, Jackson, and Cara, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Sylvia’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. As a personal assistant to the president at the Canadian Mental Health Association in Toronto, she made a lasting impact on the lives of many through her compassion and commitment to mental health advocacy.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sylvia was a force to be reckoned with. Her prowess as a typist was unmatched, and her unbeatable record as a Name That Tune champion made her well-known in her community. She was even a two time professional bowler.
Sylvia’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will forever be cherished. Her funeral will be held graveside at Bathurst Lawn Memorial in the Farband of Lithuanian Jews section on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North York General Hospital (https://www.nygh.on.ca/) or the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) (https://www.jewishtoronto.com/) in honor of Sylvia’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
