Dear Goldschmidt and Mankowitz families, we are saddened beyond words at the passing of dearest Tanya. I have known Tanya since we both moved into Jubilee Hall at Wits. She was the most amazing friend, always upbeat and smiling with that contagious smile. Someone who you could always depend on. May you get some comfort in knowing what an incredible impact she made in this world.

Tanya was not only a dear and cherished friend to us, she was the sister that neither of us had. She impacted our lives immeasurably and there will be a huge void that, quite simply, cannot be filled. She exuded a warmth that is not possible to capture in mere words; she welcomed us into her family as though we were, indeed, her family. We shared practically every milestone with Tanya and her wonderful family. Tanya welcomed her guests with open arms and gracious hospitality on every and any occasion and, often, for no occasion at all. Her infectious laugh and sense of humour will always bring a smile to our faces. She was always upbeat, positive and optimistic; no matter the challenges that she faced along life's well travelled road, Tanya took them on head first and made the best out of any situation. Tanya was a true Eyshet Chayil, a totally selfless and caring human being always thinking of others and putting them first. While battling cancer, she always wanted to know how we were doing and would be concerned for our welfare; she was a stalwart in her battle with cancer never questioning and never wanting to burden others with what she was going through. If she had any worry during her incredibly brave battle, it was only for the loved ones that she would be leaving behind. Tanya loved life and cherished moments/experiences big and small. So modest was Tanya that we are certain that she had no idea the degree to which she impacted the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her. Tanya loved meeting new people and new people loved meeting Tanya and she always knew the exact thing to say to people to make them feel special. To Joshua and Leah, we hope and pray that your cherished memories of your beautiful mother will comfort and sustain you throughout your tragic loss and that these memories will envelope you in a warmth reminiscent of that exuded by your mom. Jacob, for you, Tanya was the perfect mate; if you had scoured the entire universe, each of you could not have found a better match - you truly were one another's Baschert, about that there can be no doubt. The harmony, love, warmth and mutual respect that you had for one another was obvious to anyone who has had the fortune to know you. To David & Harriet, we don't have to tell you that Tanya was a sibling not one in a million but one in ten million and we feel honoured that Tanya made us feel like a member of her close knit and loving family. To Julie and Manny, it did not take us long to understand why your beautiful Tanya was so aptly named "Golden Tanya"; our hearts ache that you have lost a child, indeed a golden child. To our dearest friend Jacob, to Joshua and Leah, to Julie & Manny, to David and Harriet our hearts are breaking for your unbearable loss. Tanya, you have left us far too soon. Our lives truly will never be the same without you. We will miss you so very, very much; you will always be an inspiration to us and we shall never forget all the precious times that we spent with you and your beloved family. Tanya, we love you with all our hearts; may your sweet, pure soul rest in everlasting peace.

Penney and I were saddened to hear of the news of Tanya's passing. I will always remeber her smile. May you Jacob, your kids and Manny and July be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jersualem.
