Zelda Young

Jackie and I were saddened to learn of Zelda's passing. Our relationship with Zelda go back to our teenage years and we share many memories with Zelda. May you have nothing but the fondest memories of Zelda hereafter.

Condolences to the family. May you continue to have good memories of Zelda. I will miss listening to her in the radio. Running into her at the grocery store and in our neighbours hood.. Zelda was a significant contributor to our Jewish Community!

Zelda did so much for the Jewish community by continuing her father's Sunday radio show and expanding it to 6 days a week. It brought focus to what was happening in our community and encouraged participation at any level. I was proud to be a part of that legacy for almost 40 years and the beneficiary of a great friendship that we developed in the process. Zelda will be missed by so many who knew her personally, professionally and as the constant voice on CHIN radio.

Zelda z’l loved her community and loved connecting with it through her radio show. She was proud to take over that tradition from her father. She very kind and was loved by all who came to know her. May her neshama merit an aliya.

My condolences to Zelda's family. She and I go back close to 30 years. I have always known her to be a strong, independent woman who fights for what is good and right. She was a great interviewer with a sharp mind and a kind heart. I will miss talking with her, as I did almost weekly over all those years. May her memory be a blessing for all that is good.

To Zelda's Family. Growing up in n Hamilton, the radio every Sunday was turned to Sam Yuchtman's Jewish Hour, every Sunday morning, year after year. It was missed in my young adult years and then much later, Zelda started the show again with her own flavour. A few times I met her and bumped into her in a clothing store with her little dog. Dogs were not allowed on n the store but Zelda made an exception to their rules and when a customer mentioned she was very allergic.. Zelda, without missing a beat advised to to 'take a needle'...a real character! She had her own style and stood out as she celebrated her own celebrity! Zelda! A true woman of valour! You will be sorely missed dear friend. I always called you Devorah, by your beautiful Hebrew name. I will always treasure our friendship, our political talks splashed with your vibrant energy. May your heavenly abode be one of peace.

I am so sorry to learn that Zelda has passed away and send my sincere condolences to her loved ones. Zelda and I lived around the corner from each other and were great and fun friends as teenagers, but lost touch with each other over the years. She was such a strong and engaging personality and I will always remember her fondly.

I worked with Zelda on her Jewish Hour radio show and Tapestry TV show back in the late 80s, and I have never forgotten her. She was a dynamo, one of a kind, and she has earned her rest. She will live on in memories and in the impact her work had on so many people.

Baruch Dayan Ha'Emet. I extend my condolences to Zelda's family and friends and to all those connected with her radio show. There are people who come into one's life and change it, in a profound and lasting way. For me, Zelda Young z"l was one of those people. Zelda not only transformed my life, she helped bring me back to life. Listening to Zelda's show got me out of bed in the morning, when little else motivated me to do so, in the months following the untimely passing of my husband z"l. In the decade since, her show has served as a constant and a companion, especially during the tumult and isolation of The Pandemic and through the period surrounding the illness and passing of my parents z"l. Thanks to Zelda, I started every morning in the right mindset, learning how to be a kinder, more sensitive and spiritual person, through listening to her illuminating discussions with Rabbi Shaul Youdkevitch, on Sundays, and with Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, on weekdays. Zelda's line-up of outstanding guests educated and inspired. I so enjoyed listening to Rabbis Reuven Bulka zt"l, Abraham Twerski zt"l, Michael Skobac, and Moshe Steiner; the Hausman brothers; Cantor and Phyllis Bensoussan; Pastor André Anderson; Raheel Raza; Consul General of Israel, Galit Baram; Dr. Mordechai Kedar; Paul Michaels z"l; Ted Belman; El Al's Dinah Kutner and Stanley Morais; Guidy Mamann; and CHIN President, Lenny Lombardi, to name but a few. However, of all of Zelda's conversations with her many wonderful guests, my very favourite were those with her nephew, Paul Rosen, when he did his weekly "Rosen Report." The third generation to be broadcasting on the show, but fascinating and engaging in his own right, you could hear Zelda bursting with pride, talking with Paul, whom she adored. Zelda had a great impact on me, both on and off the air. I will never forget her kindness, in reaching out to me, at Uptown Chabad, and always warmly inviting me to sit with her, at the Kiddush. That was something I looked forward to, every Shabbat, when I felt very much alone, after losing my husband. She also had me join her and others, in the lobby of the CHIN Radio Station building, for the lighting of the Chanukiah. Zelda touched every facet of my life, even improving my physical fitness -- as a result of hearing the daily Medfit Rehab and Exercise spot, on Zelda's show, I joined and exercised with Medfit's top-notch trainers, Jo-Ann James and Dimitri McCreath, for over a year, when Medfit ran a satellite operation, at the Columbus Centre. I had the pleasure of often seeing Zelda, at the Columbus Centre, as she was steadfast in going there to exercise, every single day, after doing her radio show. Zelda undoubtedly touched countless listeners besides me. I thank her, for everything she gave so many of us, and I commend her for her bravery, in being candid and vocal about her pride at being Jewish and her love for Israel and not shying away from many difficult topics not commonly discussed elsewhere. It is fitting that her birthday was on Simchat Torah, as she had a deep love of the Torah, which she shared with and instilled in others. She brought both Jews and nonJews to have a greater appreciation for Judaism and Israel. She was a tremendous Eshet Chayil and Kiddush Hashem. I'm pleased that I shared these thoughts with Zelda, while she was alive, and expressed my gratitude to her. For years, Zelda drove downtown to CHIN to do her show, six days a week, including at the crack of dawn on Sundays, no matter how miserable the weather or how she poorly she was feeling. She somehow mustered up the strength to still phone in and co-host the show, with Martin Abel, until just days before her passing. May she now rest in peace. Zelda honoured the memory of her parents z"l, by carrying on and evolving the Jewish radio show, which her father created. She served the Jewish communities of Toronto, Ottawa and beyond, through her devotion to the show and her audience. I pray she will now be honoured and this important Jewish media source preserved, by people rallying and supporting the show and ensuring this treasure trove continues on, as Zelda's beautiful legacy. I was sadly informed that I suspected that Zelda some how passed away. I listened this week and got a hint that she was not going to be on the air anymore I am saddened to hear that. I couldn,t find any info on Google for some strange reason. I have Zelda on my Facebook and we did speak briefly. I will miss her right wing conservative opinions that she held. The station and show will not be the same without Zelda at the microphone. Well another one bites the dust. I listen to a lot of talk radio as much as I can. When I mention Zelda Young to some Jewish people I find that they never heard of her which is strange. Shalom Zelda from Norman.... Bye.. t

I was sorry to hear about Zelda Young’s passing. She was a rare woman. When I assumed the position of Israel’s Consul General in Toronto, I took the advice of my predecessor DJ Schneeweiss, whom she used to interview regularly on her weekly program, and kept this tradition of weekly interviews for five years, until the end of my term. Now I can confess that I dreaded those interviews and prepared for them thoroughly. And still, Zelda always managed somehow to catch me off guard with one of her questions. She was strong and opinionated, and she loved Israel with passion. She will be missed. My sincerest condolences to her niece, nephews and friend.

My dear Zelda even dough I’m not of the Jewish faith I would listen to your show it gave me more knowledge of the Jews people and the problems they have in the land that the mighty GOD gave to to the Jewish people the world can try to fight you because of their ignorance but GOD will have the last word I’ll miss your voice Zelda may you Rest In Peace

Just heard the news today...so sad to lose such a great woman... I had the opportunity to be on the show weekly for a couple of years doing real estate analysis and even sit in the studio for longer interviews with Zelda. My last show was weeks before Aliya. Remembering Zelda today on the 3rd month of her passing. I was and am still a faithful listener of Zelda’s radio program. As a Christian, I empathize wholeheartedly with the challenges faced by Israel and cannot stop thinking how much pain Zelda would have experienced had she seen the increase in antisemitism and the vitriol heaped upon Israel today. I truly admired Zelda for standing up and speaking the truth. We need more Canadians like Zelda.
