We are devastated to announce the recent loss of our musically infused wife, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, advocate & teacher, Ariella Getrajhendler.

Her passion for life permeated her devotion to her family, animal rights, Holocaust education, Zionism, Hashem and a love for Torah study.

Innumerable lives will forever be impacted by her enthusiasm, and impressive annual musical productions, throughout her joyous teaching career (aka Ms. G of Forest Hill).

Ariella was always kind and generous of spirit and shared quite a few laughs with me, even in the brief time I had the pleasure of knowing her. Always thinking critically and not afraid to ask questions, Ariella was a lovely client and someone I wish I had the pleasure of knowing for longer than I did. My sincerest condolences to Ariella's family and friends, and to all the other people I'm sure she touched within her community.

Sending you all sincere sympathy for the loss of this beautiful soul, our Ariella. As we grieve together, we know we will miss her, but see her again someday in the after. She will surely now be reunited with her sister and parents. My love and deepest condolences go out especially to my sweet Amanda and Beat whose lives will never be the same but were so blessed to live so closely with her for so long. All her friends and students will also miss her, perhaps none so much as my own parents. My mother Jary had the privilege of being best friends, like sisters with her for many many decades. My condolences will not be enough to soothe the ache of the loss, or the aunt she was to my siblings and I through this friendship. She introduced my parents over 50 years ago, without which none of our many many descendants would be here. Thank you Ariella, you helped me become the version myself, that loves life as you did. Ari taught through her life that despite the evils around, we experience God in music, laughter, theatre, animals, poetry, literature and the love and justice we have for everyone. Our beautiful and compassionate animal rights activist Ariella. She became a good friend as Peter and I transitioned to become her garden gnome pals, helping keep her little oasis of a garden neat and tidy as she struggled with her health. We loved helping her out and taking her out, as did others in our community. Ariella's voice would boom out in our animal actions - in the Eaton Centre one time with a joyous 'flash dance' singing 'all you need is love', and in the CNE Farm Building, leading a singing action. The video from the CNE shows Ariella in tears - she was so empathetic to other's suffering - human and animal - as she saw the animals there, she knew their fates. Ariella was a long-time vegan, and successfuly led campaigns for dogs in the sledding industry - she joyously watched on as a Quebec location was closed down and 100 dogs rescued. Ariella was the real deal - I so miss you, my beautiful friend.

In 19993, I hired Ariella to teach Music at Forest Hill Jr. & Sr. Public School. To my delight, she not only taught Music but incorporated Dance and Drama into her program! She also brought her enthusiasm, her love of kids, high energy, hard work and dedication into everything she did.She engaged not only the students but also the staff and parents in her musicals. She spent the remainder of her career there and made a huge difference in the life of that community. Her light will continue to shine. My sincere condolences to her family. Irene Economides

Mrs G, as we knew her in the days of the Forest Hill school concerts, took up the creative energies and the spirit of expression and song for the entire school year. The kids, the teachers and the parents. I was one of the parents that could hardly wait to hear the play that year and jump in on the backdrops. Mrs G would decide on Oliver or another classic and make her magic weaving every kid and willing parent into the production. The concerts at the end of each year was a testament to Mrs G’s brilliance. Everyone packed the auditorium for a standing ovation every time. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same. I am forever richer for having the privilege of knowing Mrs G. Now years after the concerts I have come to know Ariella for her kindness and friendship that knows no boundaries, who could love life and her endless communities and friends Ariella … you will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to your family and may your memory be a blessing.

I was so shocked and saddened to read of Ariella's passing. I frequently spoke with this spirited and delightful lady at our weekly Bathurst and Sheppard rallies for Israel, who attended with her faithful canine companion, Kayitz. Rest in peace, Ariella. You will be missed.

Ms. G changed my whole life, and I don’t feel like that’s an exaggeration. She was always encouraging me to believe in myself and to be myself, and there are dreams I’ve chased down I think I would have never pursued if not for her. Those middle school years can be rough, but she was such a bright spot in it for me, and I know for so many others. She encouraged me and my classmates to think differently and to think big, and I have especially fond memories of being in the school musical every year. Just last week I was telling someone about her and how I think she was my favorite teacher I’ve ever had, to this day. Her loss is huge to the community and the world, but I feel like she made such an impact on so many people, more so than most people do in their lives. She will be missed terribly!

As with countless others, Ms. G had a profound impact on my life. She was one-of-a-kind: an inspiring, encouraging, fun-loving, passionate, creative, nurturing individual whose deep love of music and teaching infused everything she did at school. I only had her as a music teacher for one year, but her influence was huge. My experiences in class and in Les Mis with her will always be cherished memories. She helped me and so many others find our voices, and I will always be grateful for that. I am sending my deepest condolences to her loved ones. I met Ariella in the winter of 2025 when I was going door-to-door looking for snow shoveling work to save for university. She knew my family well as we lived on the same street. It was always pleasant to see Ariella. When I last saw her in May, she gave me a tearful hug, so happy to hear from me. I will never forget that hug as I didn't know it would be the last time I saw her. Thank you for your kindness.

Ms G really touched my life. So much so that throughout my adult life I dropped in on Ms G and her class maybe a half dozen times over the course of over 20 years. It was always so nice catching up with her and filling her in on my creative endeavours, and seeing how she never stopped inspiring kids to tap into things most teachers don’t. I’m heartbroken to learn that Ariella has passed away. Such a beautiful and joyful individual. So many of the tributes relate to her teaching career but my encounters with her were more recent. I knew from sharing the same table with her at Shabbos and Yom Tov dinners and bumping into her at Shul. Mandel/Morgenstern/Davis Families

It is with great sadness that we learned of Ariella’s passing. Of course, to us, she was first known as Lilly, the daughter Mr. & Mrs. Getrajhendler, the owners of the convenience store at Downsview and Bathurst. Lilly was sweet, kind, responsible and fun to be around. She was always free-spirited and liked to explore fashion. We were acquainted with her family and liked them all, but Lilly was always the one we most loved to see and with whom we could spend many an hour talking to and bonding with. Lilly hired us for red pinball quarters, in return we helped prepare newspaper, magazine and comic returns. We loved it. In these past years we haven’t seen Lilly, although many of us (and there are many, many of us) hold Ariella and Mr. and Mrs. Getrajhendler in our thoughts and they are all remembered fondly and collectively. We remember Ariella’s sweet and kind voice, and we wish that she may rest in peace and know that the Morgenstern/Mandel/Davis families, amongst others care for her deeply and are/were so happy to have known her.

Ms. G was one of the most memorable and impactful teachers I have ever had. Her passion for the arts and social activism shaped my early teenage years and I have many fond memories in her classes. I remember in middle school she would let my friend group go to her classroom during lunch. We would dance and sing and Ms. G not only joined in, but encouraged us to explore our creativity. She taught me how to have fun and not take myself too seriously. When we covered her car with post-its on April fools day, she was not upset like most teachers would be - she thought it was hilarious and very creative! She was a force and a positive role model for myself and my classmates. I am so deeply saddened to hear about her passing and send my condolences, love, and strength to her family and friends.

I cannot express how sad I am at Ariella's (Lily to me) passing... We went to high school together, we stayed in touch and her kind heart and sympathetic soul were always a blessing. You will be missed my friend.

My deepest condolences to the family for this sad loss. I worked with Ariella at Forest Hill JPS. She was always full of positive energy and zest for helping others! Ms G was a student and staff favourite! The world was blessed to have her impact so many lives. Rest in peace Ariella.

Ariella was truly one of a kind. I feel blessed to have known her and to have called her a friend. I already miss her so profoundly and am so grateful for everything she brought to my life. I am shocked to hear of Arjela's passing. I grew up with Arjela (then Lilly)being close friends with my sister. She was always so much fun and always made me feel special and included. Later in life our paths crossed again and she was the same vibrant, free spirited soul as always. My heart is with her family. The world has lost a lovely woman.

I will miss you Ariella!! I was fortunate enough to spend a fun hour with her while visiting Mount Sinai, merely weeks before her passing. She was such a gentle person and I would’ve loved to have seen her again. I also admired how she loved to learn. We spoke about how she was learning Hebrew on Duo Lingo and how I was learning Spanish in class. That was really cool. She was a smart, kind, and beautiful person and will be remembered for these qualities.

Truly the best. My deepest condolences to Ariella Getrajhendler’s family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire Forest Hill community. Ms. G. was more than a teacher. She was a force of creativity, kindness, discipline, inclusiveness, and joy. Through nearly twenty school plays and musicals at Forest Hill Public School, and through her continued volunteer work at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute in retirement, she gave thousands of students the confidence to stand taller, speak louder, perform fearlessly, and believe in themselves. Her impact lives on through every student she encouraged, every stage she filled, and every life she helped shape. May her memory be a blessing.

I worked with Ariella at Forest Hill P.S. and she was also my son's music and drama teacher. She had such a joy and zest for life, music and school plays! I remember her with fondness. May her memory be a blessing.
