Passed away on June 22, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Nesia. Loving and devoted father and father-in-law of Harry and Hyla, Avi and Dalya, and the late Samuel Moshe. Cherished grandfather of Kyle (Shirley), Danya (Jonah), Haley (Roi), the late Ori Moshe, Noam (Yael), Elichai, Itai, and Yair. Proud great-grandfather of Lev, Miller, Noa, Yam Ori, Netanel, Ariel, Aletta, Nadav, and Shai. He will be sadly missed and remembered by all his family and friends.

Jack Borenstein was born in Ostrowiec, Poland on April 4, 1924.

During the liquidation of the Ostrowiec Ghetto on Oct 11, 1942, Jack’s family along with about 11,000 other Jews of the town were rounded up and later sent to their death to Treblinka while Jack was a slave laborer.

In 1944, Jack was sent to Auschwitz and in January 1945, marched in the death march and was finally liberated on April 30, 1945.

Jack immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1950. He married via a shidduch Nesia Nisenbaum z”l from Israel and the couple settled in Toronto, Canada and had 3 sons.

Jack and his friend from Ostrowiec Sam Steinbaum were partners together in Toronto in a restaurant called Stubbys, where many survivors  gathered together to eat and socialize.

After retirement, Jack was an active volunteer at the Shaarei Tefilla Synagogue.
