I remember you Joe getting into so much trouble with "subs" (substitute teachers) thinking that you were swearing. That boyhood friend that ALWAYS had a smile. I lost you many many decades ago but never forgot you. Joe, I hope that you will know peace and happiness always. And I wish that you are reading all these goodbyes from the so very many who remembered and loved you. To you Joe, to "The Manor" and to everlasting friendships.

Joe Gross, I wish I had taken the time to tell you, while I still could, how much of an impact you had on my life. I remember meeting you as a child in the parking lot of a Richmond Hill grocery store, your infectious enthusiasm as you banged on the window and introduced yourself with such flair. After that chance reunion with my dad, you became a welcome regular at our family dinner table and a larger-than-life presence in my world for years. You graced us with stories and games that sparked our imagination and made us feel bold and capable. Your dinner table games have now been passed down to my own daughter. Thank you for that gift of joy, engagement, and laughter, and for all the candy and gumballs! Keep shining!

Spent a lot of time with Joe as I was growing up. He and my dad we were incredibly close friends and he was always part of our family. He was hilarious, and also very serious all at the same time! I remember he brought me a gumball machine for my room when I was small and would constantly come over stacked with candy, it was like candy Christmas Everytime I saw him. It's kind of weird to say but I'll never forget the smell of hugging him as a kid! The smell of gum seared into his denim jacket was always present. He also taught me how to be tough, and he was tough with me when I wouldn't listen to my parents! Lastly, He was one hell of a fisherman! Thanks for all the memories, rest in peace.

To Joe's Family, We all considered Joe our friend... it takes a pretty remarkable person to be able to make hundreds of us feel like we were one of his closest friends. Joe was kind to everyone and ALWAYS had a friendly smile for everyone. RIP

Joe, You are truly one in a billion. You gave this world much more than it gave you. There isn’t a person here who didn’t learn something valuable from you, something about the world or about themselves. Whether it was to how play an instrument, or really listen and enjoy a piece of music, how to pick the best fishing lure and be one with the lake, or how to just be who you are unapologetically, and f anyone else who thinks otherwise. Your advice, attitude towards life, and smiles were infectious. I hope you know how much you are loved, appreciated, valued, how you changed the world by just being you. Our lives are better because you were in them, and a piece of you will stay with us forever.

Joey, Gone too soon. So sorry to hear. I can remember the days of when we lived on Pannahill Road and the hysterical laughter. Very funny and sweet man.

Joe, I cannot believe you are gone. You were a huge part of my childhood growing up and more importantly you were named my Godfather by my parents. A title that wasn't given out to just anyone but a person who was kind, trustworthy, funny and truly one in a million. The memories I have of you are endless and filled with laughter and love . You are the reason why music is such an important part of not just my life, but my entire family's life as well. You taught me and my siblings how to play guitar and I remember we used to sneak down into the basement when you and my parents would jam just to hear you guys play. That was the moment we knew playing music would be part of our lives forever and its thanks to you. You showed me and my brother everything there is to know about fishing and would always tell us how sharp a pike's teeth really are. You had an incredible gift of making every situation fun and memorable. You would tell the most amazing stories and gave the greatest advice. When my parents named you my godfather I instantly understood why. You were there for us when we needed you and always saw the best in everything. I am forever grateful for the laughter and memories we shared. You will be deeply missed but the music, the lessons and your memory will live on forever. I love you Joe, you will never be forgotten.

Joe you were one of my dad’s best friends! You guys were so close that we were as well . We shared so many fun and special times growing up with you .You were such a special guy ! You always made me feel special too , and loved buy you. You always came to have fun! go crazy ! and play with me . You always spoiled me with gum and tickled me till I peed. I have had many special times with you throughout my life . So many special memories to remember ,I will never forget any and all the funny stories you and my dad have shared with me over the years. To Joe's family and close friends, as so many people have mentioned, he was truly a huge part of my life at Dufferin Heights. His name is all over my grade 8 diary!! Needless to say, he was one of my first big crushes. Loved being "allowed " to attend his band practices (The Trew?). Really beautiful to read about, how as an adult, he touched so many lives.

A real sweetheart. Kind, respectful, funny, a class act.

I remember well those summer nights at Sheppard Plaza. I remember having Joe and my mother in the car together, that was interesting lol. Thanks for all the great times.

Sad news about a kind man. We weren’t close friends since he was 5 yrs older, but we would see each other around the Thornhill area while shopping from time to time and we would reignite stories of “back in the day”. He was an amazing guitarist, bass player. Was always doing gigs. He hit hard times but always had a smile and a story, that would come to life as he was speaking. Made you want to have been part of it all. I remember the bands around Friday night teen club at Dufferin Heights quite fondly. Also the bands at the north Y. Names like Jamie Shear, Paul Schwartz, etc. groups like the Chosen Few, The Unsociables, and more but I can’t recall all of them. Rest in peace, Joe. I’m sure you’ll join a band up there. Condolences to those who were near and dear to him. May you enjoy the wonderful memories of this kind soul. Jeff Gold

So long ago, but I'm pretty sure that Joe was in my Grade 10 class. He LOVED to entertain the girls in class with his shtick, especially if we were there before the teacher walked in. I never spoke to him directly, but when I saw him in line at Kiva's many years later, Joe treated me like a long lost friend. A very pleasant memory.

So sad to hear of Joes passing. My deepest sympathies. He was a good and kind man

Joey, you were like a brother to me in so many ways...there were times that if we were together wearing baseball caps and sunglasses, you'd swear we were twins. You taught me how to play guitar and and we jammed every week together at the Browns. You brought fun and laughter to my family and everywhere you went. But most of all, you fished your heart out with me and we spent countless hours on the water laughing our asses off. Without knowing it, you were one of the best teachers I ever had...you taught me patience and tolerance that helped me with my own struggles later in life. You will never be forgotten.

What can you say about Joe Gross? And who didn't know him, growing up in North York? He had a great sense of humour, friendly, kind & a great guitar player. I have wonderful memories of the teen years at the "Y" I will remember him as being a very kind & gentle soul. May his memory be a blessing.

Remembering joe at every teenage function in Downsview and toronto. Up and down Bathurst. Hanging out at Sheppard plaza and parties at BBYO on Hove st … Wilmington plaza and Dufferin Teen Club. He was a warm and giving friend who was always happy to be with a big group … and enjoying the simple things in life with us. . He had a beautiful soul. He will be sadly missed. ❤️‍🩹

Oh Joey, I cannot even imagine what life will be like without you in it. You were such a huge part of our lives from our backyard pool games and our various trips, Deerhurst holidays, our band playing and our weekly jam sessions. You were our only choice as the godfather of our youngest son, Ryan, who adores you along with the rest of our family and my extended family. You taught all my kids how to play guitar and now when we see them hit the stage doing live shows with their bands, we know its all because of the time and patience you had with all of them. I will watch our many video's and listen to the cd's where we sang together and remember only the good times when I think of you. To say you were loved barely touches the surface, until we see each other again, don't find a new lead singer! We will have our memories of you to comfort us. You were part of our family Joseph Martin Gross and we are thankful for all the fun times we had with you.
