Sherwin Sonny Saltzberg

Treasured child of Joseph and Blanche Saltzberg (predeceased), Sonny was a beloved friend to all who knew him.

Always an early bird, Sonny could regularly be found on Saturday mornings at Kiva’s enjoying a kibitz among friends. He was well known for his dedication to B’nai Brith and the Leonard Mayzel Ontario Lodge. For over 30 years, he organized both the annual Canadian and International B’nai Brith Bowling Association tournaments, as well as the annual Leonard Mayzel Ontario Lodge golf tournaments. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

Charitable donations can be made in loving memory of Sonny to a charity of your choice.

An unveiling will be held for Sonny at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 9th, 2022, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in the Sunnyside Section. All are welcome to attend.

Dear Saltzberg family, We were so sorry to read that our friend, Sonny, has passed away. Harvey first met Sonny when he worked for J and M sports, across from Honest Ed’s. We bowled for over 30 years together with Leonard Mayzel Lodge and travelled to many cities for bowling tournaments. His famous expression to me was “the Qster”. While I haven't seen him for a few years, I've known Sonny for a long time - bowling, BB golf tournaments - and always enjoyed spending time with him. He was certainly one of a kind! My sympathy to his friends and family - may his memories be a blessing.

The Prima Mazda team

The whole team at Prima Mazda are very sad to have learned of Sonny's passing. Sonny worked for us for almost 10 years together with his buddy Seymour picking up vehicles all over the province. Although it's been many decades since I've seen him, Sonny's memory stands out clearly in my mind. In our formative years, Sonny was a friend of Herbie Webber and both of them lived on Grace Street. We lived on Beatrice only one block from each other and spent countless hours playing in the lane between the two streets. A sweet guy who would never harm a fly. May he rest in peace.

Sonny you will be missed. It's been a long time but I still remember getting fitted for my first pair of shoes at J&M. Bowling in the LMOL league on a weekly basis and eventually working with him at The Athlete's Choice. My heartfelt condolences to the Saltzberg family

My 1st cousin Sonny was someone I hardly got to know. He distanced himself from his family for some reason and never wanted to be part of his family. I knew him as a child growing up but after his mother passed he wanted nothing to do with any of his family. I never could figure out why. If anyone would like to share, I would love to know more about him. I hope he rests in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Sonny. He was one of my dad’s closest friends for many years. They spent many mornings at Kivas together. They bowled together they golfed together they went to Las Vegas together and I even had the opportunity to go to Las Vegas with them one year. He is the true definition of a Mensch. I always will remember his voice and how are used to call me ketzell. He will be missed and hopefully he will be sharing a bagel with my dad shortly.
