Leonard Skok
Leonard Skok, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his faith and family.
Born on August 22, 1951 in Pietersburg, South Africa, Len was the cherished son of Benny and Ellen and brother of Doreen (Jeff) Zurel, Arthur Skok (Kim Cairns), and Joy (Avi) Schwartz. From a young age, he exemplified resilience and determination, qualities that guided him throughout his life’s journey including his brave decision to immigrate to Canada in 1988 to secure a better life for his children, for which they are extremely grateful.
He was a pillar of the community, known for his generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Most recently he was the founder and broker of record at Pine Tree Real Estate in Barrie, building on an entrepreneurial legacy dating back to his early career in the automotive industry in South Africa.
He is survived by his life partner, Catherine Skok, his first wife, Carol, and their three children Lesley, Allan (Sherri) and David (Alison Loat). He was a loving grandfather to Jake and Tyler Pridham, Marisa and Ryan Skok and Alec Skok, and a caring uncle to his nieces and nephews in Canada, Europe and South Africa.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and caregivers at RVAH, Toronto General, Hospice Simcoe, and to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a tremendous source of comfort.
In accordance with Jewish tradition, a funeral service will be held to honour Leonard’s memory on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Steeles Memorial Chapel Service, followed by the interment at Pardes Chaim Cemetery (11818 Bathurst St., Vaughan).
Shiva visits are welcomed on Thursday, following the internment until 6 pm, and will continue on Friday April 5 from 1-6 pm and on Sunday April 7 at 1-6 pm at 103 Daphnia Drive, Thornhill.
