William (Bill) Stein
We are extremely saddened to have to announce the peaceful passing of our dear uncle William (Bill) Stein on February 26, 2022 in his 92nd year, following hospitalization in Cornwall, Ontario, due to a hip fracture. Beloved brother of the late Tillie Margolis, brother-in-law to the late Hy and uncle to Judy and Paul Margolis, our uncle Billy was the son of Joseph and Minnie Stein (nee
Fagenbaum). A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Bill was always fiercely independent. He left Toronto for Montreal as a young man to pursue a bohemian lifestyle in his calling as an artist, intellectual and bon vivant. In his later years he was partner in a Cornwall-based sign-painting business. He also served for many years in a tactical role as a reservist with the Canadian Armed Forces. Childless, his absence from our lives also marks the end the of the Stein family legacy. We will sorely miss him. He was always an inspiring and important presence.
