In Loving Memory of Madeleine Alice Bodenstein (“Maddie”)

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Madeleine Alice Bodenstein (“Maddie”).

Maddie was the soulmate, best friend, and wife to Kenny Bodenstein, a loving sister to William and Laurence Oldacre, a devoted and caring mother to Johny (mother-in-law to Shoshana), David, Katie, and Adam, and an affectionate grandmother (“Nana”) to Zoe and Jacob. She was also a committed caregiver and granddaughter to her beloved grandmother, Margaret Anne Tull. She was predeceased by her parents, Caroline Margaret Oldacre and David Oldacre.

Maddie was a deeply passionate woman who lit up any room with her beautiful smile and irresistible warmth. She touched the lives of those around her, always offering kindness, empathy, and a listening ear. She had an innate ability to understand others, a love for psychology, and a deep curiosity about the world.

Above all, Maddie dedicated her life to her children. She was the rock to our family, the glue that held us together. No matter the challenge, she was always there—offering support, love, and reassurance. In times of stress, her embrace alone could bring comfort and peace. She was endlessly proud of her children and their accomplishments, celebrating every milestone with unwavering love. Becoming “Nana” was one of the greatest joys of her life; she cherished every moment spent with Zoe and Jacob, showering them with love, laughter, and wisdom.

Maddie possessed strength like no other. She fought for what she believed in and never hesitated to speak her mind. A lifelong learner, she found joy in reading, asking questions, and observing the world with a sense of wonder. She had an adventurous spirit, a love for travel. She went on many trips with Kenny and the kids and had plans to continue to travel all over the world. She loved sunshine and you could always find her sitting in the sun with her Kindle in hand.

In her professional life, she had many roles. As a funeral director and pre-planning specialist, she took pride in bringing peace and dignity to families and their loved ones. She enjoyed working in real estate and insurance, as well as volunteering her time to community organizations, such as the Reena Foundation and creating a community haunted house for the neighbourhood. Maddie was a member of the York Region Police services board and the Death Investigation Oversight Council. She had an unmatched work ethic; you could find her on vacation taking calls, emails, and working endlessly away on her computer.

Through it all, she remained the heart of our family, holding us together with her love, resilience, and boundless generosity. She will be missed beyond words, but the love she gave and the lessons she taught will live on in all of us.
