Sarra Basya Raben, a beloved matriarch and a remarkable woman, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, at the age of 92. Born on July 6, 1933, in Daugavpils, Latvia, Sarra’s life was a tapestry woven with resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Sarra was the cherished wife of the late Izrail, with whom she shared a deep and abiding love that spanned decades. Together, they built a life filled with warmth and laughter, creating a home that was a sanctuary for their family. Sarra was a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Leon and Lana, who were the pride of her life. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Paula and Jamie, and Elliott, who fondly remember her as a source of endless love and support. As a proud great-grandmother to Dylan, Sarra’s legacy of love continues to flourish through the generations.
Sarra’s journey was marked by her remarkable career as a textile engineer, a field in which she excelled and made significant contributions both in Latvia and Canada. Her intelligence and work ethic were evident in the way she led factories and businesses, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues.
