David Bernard Kernerman
Passed away on Sunday evening, February 8th, just a few weeks shy of his 99th birthday. Known affectionately as Dovie or Sabbah, David grew up in Toronto. He was born to Sam and Sarah Kernerman, the second of six children: Morry, David, Ari, Barry, Reesha, and Shlaimie. As a young man, he was an accomplished pianist, and together with his brothers Morry and Ari, he performed on the radio as the Kernerman Trio. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music degree and, in his twenties, moved to Israel, where he co-founded Kibbutz Kissufim with other family members. There, he shared his love and knowledge of music with the children of the kibbutz. David and his wife, Tamar, returned to Toronto with their three children in 1971, where he pursued a career in the insurance industry. After Tamar passed away in 1995, David remained a devoted grandfather, spending much of his time with his children and many grandchildren. David spent his final months at Baycrest, where he was loved by all who knew him. David was kind to all, soft-spoken, and an extremely humble man. He is survived by his two brothers, Morry and Shlaimie; his three children, Uri, Rinat, and Yuval; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. May his memory be a source of blessing.
