Harold Altman

Harold passed away, remarkably surviving COVID free well into his 97 th year. Predeceased by his sweetie Margaret by 4 years, survived by his children Sam (Nathalie), David (Leora), Miriam and Charles (Chantal), eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

An engineer by training and a developer by trade, there was not a problem out there that he could not solve (whether inside or outside his field of expertise). Nor was there a state of affairs happening around him that didn’t merit supplementation with a well-placed cartoon. He had a light and sweet side that might have been harder to see in his later years when he lost some of his fiercely guarded independence. Most of all, he devoted himself to organizing and cultivating family gatherings, be it Friday night dinners, weekends at the chalet, eclectic family vacations, cake tasting parties. He rarely missed any family dinner while his children were growing up. He was appreciated by many for his incredible generosity – a man who would quietly give a family member the shirt off his back. He made it his mission to improve things around him sometimes just with his suggestions (‘Do you know what you should do?’), or by getting his hands dirty and doing it himself (Condo building and management / EIL / Boca West Tennis (always with tea) and Salons).

As Harold embarks on his journey to the world beyond, we imagine he might stop for a slice of chocolate cake, and then regale the gatekeeper with his life story.
