Fela (Frances) Sacks

Fela (Frances) Sacks a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished “Bubie” to so many, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 103.

Fela was born on May 10, 1922, in the small town of Krepice, Poland, where she was raised in a traditional Orthodox Jewish home in a close-knit shtetl community. Her early life in Europe was forever shaped by the tragedy of the Holocaust, which she survived with remarkable strength and resilience.

In 1948 she immigrated to Canada where she would spend the rest of her life building a home and family rooted in faith, tradition, and love. She was married to her beloved husband Joe ז”ל for 50 years until his passing in 1995. Together they built a warm and welcoming home centered on Jewish values and family.

Fela chose to dedicate her life to her family, proudly embracing the role of homemaker and raising her four children with devotion and care. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the traditions she held dear.

She was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, leaving behind four children, David (Susan), Richard (Honi), Barry (Karen), and Joyce; ten grandchildren, Shay, Daniel, Jennifer (Stuart Brotman), Jordana (Peter Stotland), Janine (Marty Rabinovitch), Jeremy (Jessica Fenson), Lauren (Sam Direnfeld), Laina, Jaimie (Roey Fishman), and Josh (Ashley Tencer); and nineteen great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jonah,  Zachary, Evan, Jacob, Ben, Dylan, Russell, Ava, Willow, Max,  Zoey, Bailey, Lola, Kai, Emmy, Riley, Luke and Chase who will carry forward her legacy of strength, faith, and kindness.

Fela shared an especially close bond with her brother Josel, who predeceased her, and she was inseparable from him throughout their lives. She loved his wife Judy, who also predeceased her, like a sister. Their daughters, Brenda (Bruce) and Sherri, and grandchildren were treated as if they were her own, and Fela held them close to her heart.

Known affectionately by everyone as “Bubie”, Fela had a gift for bringing people together. She loved playing cards, visiting with friends and family, and sharing stories and laughter. Her warmth, wisdom and generous spirit made everyone feel welcome. To know her was to love her.

Fela’s life spanned more than a century of history, yet she remained grounded in the traditions and values that shaped her. Her strength in the face of adversity, her deep commitment to family, and her joyful spirit will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

May her memory be for a blessing.
