It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful,dear mother Batia Gortler on Monday, September 5, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Jack Gortler z”l and devoted daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah Friedman z”l. Batia will be profoundly missed by her children: Jeffrey and Susan, Elaine and Eliezer Cohn of Israel, and Judy and Eric Marmor; cherished Savta to Chelsea and Josh, Hilary, Amichai, Eliana, Sarit, Leora and Tamara.
Batia was born in Przemysl, Poland. A hidden child during the Holocaust, Batia survived and was reunited with her parents after the war. She immigrated to Israel in 1949 where she served in the Israeli army. She married Jack in 1956 and started her life anew in Canada. Batia was a pillar of strength. She will be remembered for her
warmth, elegance, compassion and kindness.
Thank you to Dr. Neville Sischy, Dr. Roy Blachowitz and nurse Kay Cohen. Many thanks to her devoted caregivers Ester, Ronda and Teresa and to the exceptional staff at Chartwell Constantia who helped enrich her life over the past four years.
