Joel Stanley Greenspan

Our beloved Joel Greenspan (aka Poppa Joeli) passed away peacefully from heart failure on Dec 1 2025. He will be missed deeply by many. Beloved grandfather of Jack and Kaia, loving father of Mark and Ashley, Nicole and Matthew. Bereaved family includes cousins Bob and Roz Levy, Cara, Moise, Asher and Levi Bensimon, Michelle Levy, and Callie, Nikolas and Sophia Zahariadis. Brother- and sisters-in laws include Rachel Rosenberg, Molly Saunders, Karen and Charles Rosenberg, Anne Rubenstein and Martin Rosenberg. He was a beloved uncle and granduncle to many, including Eden, Morganne and Finn, Amy, Justin, Riley and Lennon. He will be deeply missed by Josh and Martin Knelman, Sara, Mark and Leo, and Gail Singer. Bernie Sulgit and Joel also shared a bond  in the last years of her life before she died earlier this year.

Joel lived a full life, and was the quintessential all round nice person.  He grew up in downtown Toronto, went to Oakwood Collegiate, and then the University of Toronto, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1963, before becoming a chartered accountant.  Joel was a friend to many, and had many clients who he knew well, sometimes throughout family generations.

A lover of bright colors, he was playful, loving, and possessed a sparkle that few had.  Predeceased by his wife Suzanne Greenspan in 1996, he had a special friendship with Valerie Brass and her kids Jules and Tommy.

There are no words to express our grief at this sudden unexpected loss.  We had hoped to have his joyful presence with us for longer.
