Richard Brian Zuckernick, beloved husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully but suddenly on August 16, 2025, in Budapest, Hungary. He was born on October 3, 1961, in Montreal, Quebec, to Hester and the late David Zuckernick.
Richard was the devoted husband of Robyn (née Herscovici), his wife of 33 years, the proud father of Julia and Jake, and the cherished son of Hester and the late David. He was a son-in-law to Sandy and Mel Jacoby and the late George and Donna Herscovici, a loving brother to Jeff and Paul Zuckernick, a caring brother-in-law to Emily and Carol Zuckernick, Bruce and Jason Herscovici, Carrie Costello, Robert and Mindy Jacoby, and Michele Weinger, and an adoring uncle to Ben, Joey, and Adam Zuckernick, Rachel, Devon, Hannah, and Avery Herscovici. He was also a beloved nephew and cousin to many, all of whom will deeply feel his absence. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them was boundless.
Above all, Richard shared a deep and loving partnership with Robyn, built on laughter, devotion, and unwavering support. Their life together was full of shared joys, adventures, and everyday moments that reflected their love.
Those who knew Richard often described him as a true mensch—a man of kindness, integrity, and generosity. He always had time for others, whether to share a laugh, offer a helping hand, or simply listen. Richard was a devoted friend to many, maintaining lifelong friendships in Montreal, Toronto, and Tucson, always offering support, humor, and camaraderie wherever he went. His quick wit, easygoing nature, and warm smile made him beloved by family and friends alike.
Throughout his career in sales and management, Richard’s generosity, integrity, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.
A lifelong sports fan, Richard’s enthusiasm was infectious. Though he cheered many teams over the years, once Jake began working with the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers proudly became his favorite. Few things brought him greater joy than sharing that passion with his son. Equally, Richard was deeply moved by Julia’s compassion and sensitivity, qualities that mirror his own. He took great pride in seeing her thrive as a psychotherapist, dedicating her career to helping others and making the world a kinder, more understanding place.
Richard leaves behind not only cherished memories, but also a legacy of love, laughter, and decency. He will be remembered as a man who lifted others up, made people feel welcome and valued, and found joy in both the big milestones and the simple, everyday moments, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
